The hotel Schweizerhof was built between 1869 and 1870 for Adolf Stahel of Turgi, making it one of the first hotels in Davos. Stahel  died young, and his widow Marie Stahel-Lützschwab married the German officer Franz Gelbke. He would run the hotel  for the next thirty years until its conversion to a sanatorium.

In 1884 Gelbke added the Villa Gelbke as an annex to the Schweizerhof. At this time, the hotel also included a library, which with 1100 volumes was relatively large. In 1891 a billiards room and restaurant were also added. By 1896 the Schweizerhof had thiry rooms, mostly accomodating German guests. A room cost between 6 and 10 Swiss Francs for full board. At this time the hotel also included a bowling alley and a 30m by 3.5m veranda.

Between 1901 and 1903 the Schweizerhof was completely converted into a sanatorium. It was then that Anton Morosani I became the first of the Morosani family to manage the hotel, doing so until his death in 1932. It was at this time that a lobby was added, and a spacious park with a fountain lay. 1948 saw another conversion, from a sanatorium back into a hotel.

In 1952 Anton Morosani III bought the hotel, and took over its management as well as ownership. By this time almost all the rooms had running water. During the first extensive renovation all the rooms were given bathrooms.

In 1954 the hotel gained a mini golf course, the first in Graubünden. By 1957 Anton Morosani III was in full possession of the Schweizerhof company. 1958 brought a total renovation of the hotel’s annexes, with the main building following 10 years later. In the same year an indoor swimming pool and sauna were added. In 1963 a garden and car park were built over the mini golf course.

Anton Morosani IV took over the Schweizerhof in 1984. The Dining room was enlarged, a large Arvenstube built, the lobby and reception modernized, and the pool and sauna were renovated to their present condition in 1999.

Gianna and Anton C. Morossani V took over the running of the Schweizerhof in 2004, becoming the fifth generation to represent the Morosani family in Davos. In 2005 they took over the partner hotel Morosani Posthotel as well.

In 2005/06 renovations in the Schweizerhof Lobby area and Restaurant took place. The renowned Pöstli Night Club started its revival. The new Fondue Restaurant "La Cave" opened its doors with 50 seats with cheese specialties.

In 2007 the Schweizerhof entered its second renovation phase: 36 rooms were refurbished and 20 bathroom completely renovated. The Pöstli Club was enlarged and its ballustrade with a second bar opened.

Contemporary and fresh: In 2008 a new revival took place at the Posthotel. The Pöstli Corner Bistro, Bar and Take Away was redesigned and opened its door with contemporary interior design and fresh food. The Lobby area and front office of the hotel were modernized.

For the summer season '09 the Schweizerhof remained closed. The construction project for its expansion took place and 15 millions were invested: 15 new junior suites, 400m2 conference space, 500m2 wellness area, garden with terrace enhance the highlights at the Morosani Hotels Davos.
